‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ just got its first TV spot

Guys. We’re now less than 40 days away from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. You know what that means? It’s time to really kick everything up into Force Awakens overdrive. We’ve got trailers, we’ve got posters, and now we’ve got the first official TV spot for the movie. It’s got more action, more plot, and more Rey fightin’ and it’s only :30 seconds long!

This spot puts Rey (Daisy Ridley) completely front and center for everything. The voice we hear talking in the beginning is Lupita Nyong’o’s Maz Kanata, who’s still completely unknown and pretty much unseen (it’s assumed that she’s the character we see at the very, very beginning of the latest Star Wars trailer). Here, it sounds like she’s talking directly to Rey, and they’re talking about eyes.

Huh? As Maz Kanata says, she’s “lived long enough to see the same eyes in different people.” And that voiceover happens just as there’s a cut between Rey and Han Solo. Are you trying to tell us something, Force Awakens TV commercial?

There’s also another quick shot of Rey fighting with her staff, and all the yes to that. Clearly, she’s going to kick lots of galactic butt in this movie. Just look at what she’s doing in 30 seconds.

Check out the brand new spot below. December 18th can’t get here soon enough.
