This new ‘Star Wars’ fan theory explains the (possible) origin of Felicity Jones’ character
Have you spent a lot of time thinking about Felicity Jones’ new character in the Star Wars Story, Rogue One? Cool, me too! We’re not the only ones, either, and there’s a new fan theory out there on the Internet about Jones’ character. AND, the fact that we might have met her before.
The story behind Rogue One is that it takes place after the events of Revenge of the Sith, but before A New Hope. The plot — that we know of so far — is about a group of Rebels who steal the plans for the Death Star. This is mentioned for the first time in A New Hope’s opening crawl: “Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR.” But, we never seen that on film. That is, until we get to Rogue One.
Rogue One isn’t the only story to take place between the events of the two Star Wars trilogies, though. Disney XD’s show, Star Wars Rebels, also takes place in this same time period. Jones’ character might be from Star Wars Rebels.
Jones could POSSIBLY be Sabine Wren, a teenage weapons and explosives expert on the show. Sabine has been greatly affected by the rising Galactic Empire, and as a former Imperial Cadet, before leaving that to join up with the Rebel Alliance. The ages don’t exactly line up, but the events of Rogue One could still be a few years in the future from Rebels. Also, there’s a BIG rumor that Jones COULD be Boba Fett’s daughter, and Sabine is from the same home planet as Fett, Mandalore, and everything could potentially tie back to some already-established characters.
But, one huge difference between Sabine and Jones is that Sabine loves color, and Jones’ character in the released Rogue One image really likes black-on-black. Still a possibility though.
A lot of it might have to do with how Disney and Lucasfilms plans to utilize Star Wars Rebels, since the show is completely cannon to the Star Wars universe. Just like how the events of ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. all tie back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rebels could bring brand new and returning characters to life on the small screen.
According to the official Star Wars app, we are still 449 days away from Rogue One. SO we’ve got MORE than enough time to get to the bottom of this. And also now binge every episode of Star Wars Rebels, just to be on the safe side.
