You need to see Daisy Ridley’s powerful audition for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens lands on DVD and Blu-ray on April 5th, and you should buy a copy for every time you saw the movie in theaters. JK, don’t do that, because do you really need five copies of Force Awakens? Well… maybe.

Our friends over at BuzzFeed got their hands on one of the behind-the-scenes special features we’ll soon be able to see ourselves, and this little tease is a huge TREAT. It involves Daisy Ridley, Daisy Ridley’s audition for Rey, and one completely blown away director J.J. Abrams.

In the video, Abrams explains that they had been searching far and wide for an unknown actress who was “vulnerable, and tough, sweet and terrified.” Easier said than done. And then Ridley walked into the audition, and as Abrams states, “she blew my mind.”

The scene she used to audition is the (ugh does this even need a spoiler warning?) one where Kylo Ren is interrogating her on Starkiller Base. Rey is visibly terrified of this looming, cloaked man, but as their conversation goes on, she realizes that he’s actually a little bit terrified of her. It’s one of the most intense scenes of the movie. It’s also what landed Ridley the role.

Abrams hasn’t been shy when talking about his love for Ridley, noting that she could “take a direction, make it her own, make it better than I could have ever imagined… she is spectacular.” We’re going to co-sign that statement 1000%. Check out the video above, and snag your copy of Force Awakens on April 5th.
