This award-winning star is joining the ‘Game of Thrones’ cast

Game of Thrones is currently filming its sixth season. Pause to give high-fives all around and throw confetti up into the air. While we’re still quite a ways from seeing it — like, next year away — we can go ahead and start mentally preparing ourselves for what we’ll see. Like, how Golden Globe-winning Ian McShane has joined the cast in a top-secret mysterious role.

Who’s McShane going to play? It is literally ANYONE’S GUESS. Seriously, guess. The end of season 5 of Game of Thrones caught up to George R. R. Martin’s books, which means there’s no more source material for the TV show. That means, we have literally no idea what’s going to happen next. Like, we can guess what might happen. But Game of Thrones and guess don’t really go hand-in-hand, seeing as how the show loves to keep us on our toes. And it does a pretty excellent job of doing just that, like when it kills off characters that are still alive in the pages of Martin’s books, gives characters like Ser Joran Greyscale, and that whole thing with Sansa in Winterfell this past year.

Like, we can guess that McShane is coming back as the reincarnated ghost of Jon Snow, because, right now, there are no wrong answers.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the news from Westeros is that, “McShane has a relatively small amount of screen-time during the season, yet his character is of key importance.” What does that even MEAN?

As for McShane, you know him from a million different things. He recently showed up in American Horror Story: Asylum. He’s also appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (as Blackbeard), voiced characters in both Kung Fu Panda and Shrek the Third. Plus, he won a Golden Globe for his work on HBO’s Deadwood. He should fit in well with the Lannisters.

Or the Starks. Maybe the Targaryen? Wildlings? Whoever he’s playing, we’re going to have to wait until next spring when season 6 premieres to find out.
