When we tune into the 2018 Oscars, we tend to envision A-list actors and amazing red carpet gowns. But let’s not forget the all-star lineup of musical talent planned for the event! We’re super excited to see some big names take the stage during tonight’s awards show, airing on ABC. There are five songs nominated for Best Original Song, and they’ll all be performed live at the 2018 Oscars. One of our favorites is called “Stand Up for Something.” Written for the film Marshall, the tune is sung by Chicago rapper Common and California vocalist Andra Day. The Thurgood Marshall biopic stars one of our favorite actors, Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman.
Common collaborated on the song with songwriter Diane Warren, and it earned him his first-ever Oscar nomination. Warren has lots of experience writing songs for movies, and has earned 10 nominations for collabs like Lady Gaga’s “Til It Happens to You” and Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” (We hope her win comes sooner rather than later!)
So, who else will be performing at the 2018 Oscars? Mary J. Blige will sing her song “Mighty River” from the Mudbound soundtrack. Blige also acts in the film, a role that earned her an Oscar nom for Best Supporting Actress. Miguel, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Natalia Lafourcade will perform “Remember Me” from Coco. “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman will be sung by Keala Settle, and Sufjan Stevens will reprise “Mystery of Love” from Call Me By Your Name.
