Thank you, St. Vincent, for pairing an amazing song with an even more amazing music video
If you’re not familiar with St. Vincent, today is the perfect day for you to get acquainted. The artist, real name Annie Clark, is all kinds of amazing with an unexpected sound and a voice that’s something like if Fiona Apple and Gwen Stefani melded. Her latest video, “Birth in Reverse” was released yesterday and has since made some rampant rounds on the Internet.
St. Vincent’s self-titled fourth album has been a critical SMASH this year even if it’s found less mainstream success. “Birth in Reverse” is one of the biggest stand outs on an album filled with stand outs. Impressive. In addition to critical praise the album has drummed up some major accolades, even snatching a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Rock Album.
Directed by Willo Perron, the “Birth in Reverse” video stays consistent with the muted colors and daunting facial expressions we saw in her “Digital Witness” video back in January. This time, St. Vincent doesn’t stay in her one dimensional, pastel world. The video shows her gradually traveling from one realm to another, each realm more unexpected than the last. Annie even trades her signature curly silver locks for a stick-straight bob by the video’s end.
Feast your eyes on the gorgeousness of “Birth in Reverse,” below and welcome St. Vincent to your fave playlist. You know, if she wasn’t there already.
