If you squint, you might be able to figure out what’s printed all over Elle Fanning’s Cannes dress
Summer is the time of year to break out the floral prints and bright colors. But actress Elle Fanning has taken a different approach to her summer fashion. If you squint, you can see that Fanning’s dress isn’t painted with flowers and leaves, but is instead covered with pale yellow and blue old-fashioned telephones.
Fanning showed up to Day three of the 70th annual Cannes Film Festival in this Miu Miu, retro-inspired maxi dress. The flowy, long-sleeved piece screams ’70s vintage, and its color scheme is also taking us back in time.
Elle wrote in her caption,
"Ring! ⚡️ Ring! Bonjour Day 3! ☎️☎️☎️"
Miu Miu’s telephone dress is right on the money for this season’s vintage ’70s trend that we’ve seen on the runway (and on Fanning at Day 2 of Cannes), but the pattern modernizes it and makes it unique.
Perhaps instead of florals, summer 2017 will be the year of funky patterns! Taking a page out of Fanning’s book, we hunted for interesting patterns done in retro colors that will add some vintage spice to your hot weather wardrobe.
This black cat dress from ModCloth ($69.99) is not only ’60s retro-inspired in cut and style, but the black cats and teal background make it just as quirky and fun as Elle Fanning’s Miu Miu number.
This veggie-print dress, also from ModCloth ($69.99), has a great ’60s-inspired boxy shape. Our favorite thing about this dress is the fact that the veggies have little faces on them. Adorbz!
And finally, we have this Forever 21 floral tie-front maxi dress ($48), for those of us who love the style of Fanning’s Miu Miu but want to stay classic with the pattern.
‘Tis the season to step outside the box and get creative with your summer dresses in the names of Elle Fanning and Miu Miu! Whether it’s telephones, veggies, or a vintage picture from your mom’s 1976 prom — try jazzing up your clothing with quirky flare.
Maybe not mom’s prom picture, but you get the idea!
