Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon have a new show together. Bless you, TV.

Amazing news, fans of funny things! IFC’s The Spoils Before Dying has a cast, and it is everything you’ve ever dreamed of. For those of you who somehow missed the glorious show The Spoils of Babylon, let’s get you caught up to speed. The miniseries starred Kristen Wiig and Tobey Maguire as star-crossed lovers/adoptive siblings who grapple with their father’s oil fortune after his death. It’s a spoof on the hyper-melodramatic miniseries that became popular in the 1970s and 1980s, and it’s so over-the-top that words can’t even express it. Watch it. It’s on Netflix. You can thank me later.

The Spoils Before Dying is the follow-up to The Spoils of Babylon, although the stories won’t be connected. Just like The Spoils of Babylon, the miniseries is “based” off a fictional novel by Eric Jonrosh (played by Will Ferrell). Here’s a quick recap of the plot:

“Set in 1962 during the height of the Los Angeles jazz scene, The Spoils Before Dying follows Rock (Michael Kenneth Williams) as he becomes the prime suspect in the double murder of singer and his occasional lover Fresno Foxglove (Maya Rudolph) who is found dead in a car with another man. Panicked, Rock splits town for Mexico where he reunites with his one-time big band singer Delores O’Dell (Kristen Wiig). Determined to prove his innocence and avoid the electric chair, Rock and Delores head back to the U.S. on a dangerous journey for the elusive truth. All the while, Rock’s hard charging manager Alistair St. Barnaby (Haley Joel Osment) obliviously pressures Rock to record a mainstream jazz album.”

Alistair St. Barnaby. Is anyone else super excited right now? I’m beside myself. Haley Joel Osment, Val Kilmer, and Wiig (who snagged an Emmy nomination for her role in Babylon) are all return stars, but Michael Kenneth Williams and Maya Rudolph are new to the cast. Along with her, we’ll be seeing Kate McKinnon and Chris Parnell, as well as Michael Sheen, who played Wiig’s ridiculous husband in Babylon.

We have to wait until this summer to enjoy The Spoils Before Dying, but at least now we know it will definitely live up to the legacy of The Spoils of Babylon. Oh Eric Jonrosh, you are a genius.
