Brave groom proposes on Splash Mountain, manages not to drop the ring
If you ask diehard Disney fans what their ultimate Disney dream would be, chances are they’ll say being proposed to at one of the Disney parks. And for a lot of those fans, that dream has already come true. But one mega Disney fan took that dream to the next level.
Patrick De Nicola proposed to his girlfriend Annie DiMaria while on Splash Mountain. But not during the mellow Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah part — he proposed during the part where the ride drops 52.5 feet into a pool of water. Nicola planned it out perfectly — he proposed at the exact moment the camera on the ride snapped their picture. So not only do they get to have that memory forever, they get to remember that De Nicola was actually able to hold onto the ring while gravity was working against him. It was a Disney miracle.
The couple has loved everything Disney for as long as they can remember, but they never wanted to be one of “those” couples who got engaged at the park. Which is exactly why De Nicola knew he could get away with the surprise.
“The more I thought about it, the more I realized [Disney] would be the last place she’d expect it to happen,” De Nicola told the Huffington Post.
Even though De Nicola popped the question in March 2013, he didn’t post the engagement photo to Imgur until this week. The photo has already received almost 300,000 views.
“He had timed it perfectly — the photo snapped and got my reaction of laughing, crying, while also getting soaked,” Annie wrote in a blog post on Magical Day Weddings. “I said ‘Yes, of course!’ when we reached the bottom and put on my beautiful ring. The center stone was my grandmother’s, which Patrick had had reset into the exact [sic] setting I wanted. I was so thrilled with how it turned out!”
According to the Huffington Post, the couple got married in July 2014 at. . . you guessed it. . . Disney World.
“With the wedding being at Disney, we kept most of the Disney-thematics to a minimum,” De Nicola said. “We did have a lot of hidden Mickeys though!”
What a cool story to share with their kids (and grandkids)! At Disney World, of course.
