Spice Up Our Lives! Spice Girls Hint at Potential 25th Anniversary Reunion
Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, is all they need to make it official, Mel C says.
Make room on your bookshelves, ’90s music fans! Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm just released a new memoir, entitled The Sporty One: My Life as a Spice Girl, and along with juicy details of her days as a girl group singer, she also discusses her thoughts about an official reunion that would mark 25 years of the Spice Girls.
“In my heart of hearts, I want to get back onstage,” she revealed in an interview for Extra. “We’re all talking and trying to make that happen.”
“We don’t see each other as much as we’d like,” Chisholm added. “But we stay in touch and we’re always talking about opportunities and trying to get everyone back onstage together…”
She mentioned that her fellow Spice Girls alum Melanie “Mel B” Brown, aka Scary Spice, is her partner in crime when it comes to pumping up the other members for what will hopefully be a future reunion tour.
Lots of pop culture classics from the 1990s are getting a second chance decades later, including a reunion of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers cast. Even school suppliesare taking a retro twist that makes our nostalgia swoon hard.
The world has seen a few Girl Power reunions—most recently, right before COVID hit. The Spice Girls joined together for a 2019 reunion tour, however, Victoria Beckham declined to participate.
“It took me a lot of courage not to go on tour with the Spice Girls again,” she admitted in a 2019 interview with Vogue Germany. “To be the one who says, ‘You know, I’m not doing it because things feel different now than they used to.'”
Mel C. and the others are still holding out for a whole group comeback and explained that Beckham is still active and involved with the Spice Girls brand.
“We’re always working on her,” Chisholm elaborated. “It’s like… ‘No pressure. But the world wants it. We hope—I can’t give a time frame. It is something we want to do. We are trying to push through. At the moment, Victoria is in the wings. She is always involved creatively. We want her to be happy. It is our dream to get her back.”
At the very least, the girl group will be releasing a new and extended version of their world-famous Spiceworld album, called Spiceworld 25, to mark their 25th anniversary on November 4, according to People.
