Yes, ‘Space Jam 2’ could soon be a reality
Do yourself a favor, and queue up Space Jam’s theme song for this one. It will make hearing the news about Space Jam 2 a billion times better.
Because, my friends, we are living in a world where television shows come back from the dead, and classic movies get re-booted. Ever since 1996, we have been politely requesting, “Hey, can we get a Space Jam 2? Asking for a friend.” Finally, after twenty years, this question has been answered. Though Warner Bros. is keeping super mum on the subject right now, it looks like all systems are GO for a Space Jam 2.
Here’s what we know so far. Last month, Warner Bros. filed new trademarks for Space Jam — basically, once again saying they own the rights to the name, and future projects involving Bugs Bunny and basketball.
Then yesterday, fresh off his huge success with Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck, LeBron James’ production company, SpringHill Entertainment, signed a deal with Warner Bros. In a statement, Warner Bros. chairman, Kevin Tsujihara , explained that, “The combination of LeBron’s global media presence and Warner Bros.’ unmatched production and distribution expertise is a big win for fans everywhere.” Big win, like big win against the Nerdlucks?
So on one side of the court, we’ve got a brand new registry for Space Jam. And on the other side, we’ve got huge basketball star who just proved he’s a darn amazing comedic actor. Like, you’re thinking what I’m thinking right?
James likes the idea of it, too. Last year he told The South Florida Sun that he’s “always loved Space Jam,” continuing on with, “It was one of my favorite movies growing up. If I have the opportunity [to be in it], it will be great.”
Still, it’s not officially confirmed yet. But seeing as how the Internet lost its collective marbles at the idea of a Space Jam 2, it’s got to come true. Have you been thinking about a Space Jam 2 every night and day?
So go ahead and dust off your Tune Squad jersey (don’t deny it, you still have it), spend some time browsing the still-intact 1996 Space Jam website, and hope and pray that Bill Murray will return to Space Jam 2, just because.
