Sorry, but you’re going to have to pay more for Girl Scout cookies this year
The best time of year is right around the corner, but it’s going to be a wee bit more expensive this year. Girl Scout cookie prices are going up in 2017, so cookie season — which runs January to April in most areas — is going to hit our pocketbooks a little harder.
While each of the 112 Girl Scout councils across the country prices its own cookies “based on its needs and its knowledge of the local market,” Money reports that many councils will be raising prices this year to account for national economic changes, and also to prevent additional increases in the near future.
A box of cookies will cost as much as $5 in some regions, including parts of California, Southern Arizona, and Massachusetts, up from $3.50 or $4.
The good news is up to 75% of the cost of a box of cookies goes right back to the girls who sold it, helping to pay for trips around the country, visits to summer camp, and everyday activities that teach girls entrepreneurial and survival skills.
