Sophie Turner is getting her own “X-Men” spin off, and we’ve never been more ready for anything
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes…oh, wait, that’s the wrong Marvel movie. It turns out there’s an *actual* Phoenix rising from the ashes, and it’s not metaphorically like Tony Stark thinks. Sophie Turner is coming back as Jean Grey in X-Men with a spin-off. The Dark Phoenix story from the X-Men comics will finally be getting its own film, appropriately called Dark Phoenix.
Jean Grey is one of the most powerful mutants ever. Level 5! And we’ve actually already seen her as the Dark Phoenix in X-Men: The Last Stand. Of course, that was actress Famke Janssen and things didn’t end so well for her.
But since then we’ve re-written history (*cough* X-Men: Days of Future Past *cough*) and now Sophie Turner (you know, Sansa Stark!!) plays Jean Grey so there’s another chance to tackle the Dark Phoenix Saga. And if you’ve seen X-Men: Apocalypse, this probably isn’t all that surprising. Sophie Turner herself explained to Entertainment Weekly that she expected to see Phoenix again:
“The seeds of Phoenix definitely are planted in [Apocalypse]. She can’t control her powers unless she either fully stops them or lets them all loose, and that’s kind of Phoenix. I think in future movies to come we’ll definitely see a bit more of that.
But there’s still over a year (and a few other X-Men-related projects like Deadpool 2 and New Mutants) before the Dark Phoenix release date of November 2nd, 2018. In the meantime, just get ready to warm up to Dark Phoenix and embrace her awesome power.
