Sophie Turner just cleared up those rumors about Taylor Swift joining the ‘X-Men’ cast
Last week, the world was treated to a beautiful sight: a picture of Taylor Swift, along with Sophie Turner, James McAvoy, and Simon Kinberg. Or, to put it another way, a picture of Taylor Swift, Jean Grey, Professor X, and X-Men: Apocalypse writer Simon Kinberg. Why were they together? What were they doing? Is this some crazy hint that we’ll see Swift don an X-Men suit and save the world? Could life be that magnificent?
The picture Kinberg tweeted out quickly made the rounds across the Internet, as we all speculated away. As much as we might have wished and hoped to see Swift as the newest X-Men recruit, she’s sadly not becoming a mutant anytime soon. In an interview with Time magazine this past weekend at Comic-Con in San Diego, Turner set the record straight.
“Actually, that was just us going to see her concert [in Toronto] and then meeting her. I think people are thinking she’s going to be in X-Men,” Turner explained, dashing all hopes. However, she did follow up with, “but you never know. She could be great in this movie.” We second that thought.
In X-Men: Apocalypse, Turner plays a young Jean Grey, who has the ability to read and control minds (among a dozen other awesome powers). So, just hypothetically speaking of course, what power does Turner think Swift would have, anyway?
“Probably… this feminist power — she would be the leader of the girl pack, and we’d all be her squad.” That’s kinda real life as it is, and we like it. Swift’s superpowers could also include sticking up for those without a voice, lending a hand to help those in need, and throwing crazy holiday parties. Among other powers, too, of course.
So while we shouldn’t count on seeing Swift on the big screen next year when X-Men: Apocalypse opens, things could change. I mean, if you suddenly need to save the world, Swift is #1 on speed dial, right?
