Sophie Turner just clapped back at anyone who doesn’t think Taylor Swift should have made the cover of “Time”

People can’t stop applauding Time Magazine‘s 2017 Person of the Year — or, should we say, People of the Year. The magazine awarded the honor to the “Silence Breakers” — otherwise known as the individuals, primarily women, who spoke up about the big issue of sexual harassment and assault.  Alongside other inspirational silence breakers is singer Taylor Swift, who had a highly publicized trial shortly before the outing of Harvey Weinstein.

Swift sued a former DJ who sexually assaulted her in 2013. During a photo shoot, Swift stated that DJ David “Jackson” Mueller grabbed her butt from under her skirt while backstage posing for a photo. Swift only sought $1 from the case — she was more focused on getting justice, and making it clear that actions like this without consent are inexcusable. According to CNN, the lawsuit and Swift’s presence in court was meant to “serve as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts.” Swift won her case, and helped get the conversation started.

Ashley Judd, corporate lobbyist Adama Iwu, former Uber engineer Susan Fowler, and Isabel Pascual, a strawberry-picker, are also on the cover of the magazine. All of them helped bring the topic of sexual harassment and abuse in the workplace into the spotlight, showing that these issues happen everywhere.

Swift’s interview with the magazine included a bit of advice to other survivors. “My advice [to other victims] is that you do not blame yourself and do not accept the blame others will try to place on you,” she stated.

Unfortunately, a lot of people think that Swift shouldn’t have made the cover. Instead, they believe that singer Kesha — who was in court battling sexual assault and harassment against producer Dr. Luke, among many other charges — should have been the pop star who was included. false

There’s no doubt about it — Kesha would have been an incredible choice. But Taylor Swift’s court case was important to the movement as well — and Sophie Turner from Game of Thrones recognized it right off the bat. false
