You Have to See Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas Remake ‘The Princess Bride’ at Home

Picture, if you will, a The Princess Bride remake starring Josh Gad, Tiffany Haddish, Hugh Jackman, Joe Jonas, Sophie Turner, Jennifer Garner, and a handful of other faves. “Intriguing, but inconceivable!” you might say. “How dare one mess with perfection?” And yes, you have a point. The 1987 classic, starring Cary Elwes and Robin Wright, should be left untouched. But this “remake” of sorts is one you’re definitely going to want to put your eyes on.
In March, Juno director Jason Reitman pulled together a ragtag crew of actors, all of whom were stuck in quarantine, to recreate the iconic film the way we used to reenact scenes from our favorite movies as kids—in their own backyards, wearing what costumes they had on hand, and using a lot of imagination.
This The Princess Bride remake is basically a giant game of “pretend” that just happened to be filmed.
“The week that the stay-at-home order came through in California, I just woke up one of the first mornings, I think like most people did, feeling as though...I need to be able to do something of value, Reitman told Vanity Fair on June 26th. “I just thought, Can we remake an entire movie at home?
Having seen a fan-made Star Wars come to fruition before, Reitman knew that his talented friends could absolutely pull something together. “The response was kind of immediate and fast. It was like, ‘Oh—that sounds like fun.’”
Airing in its entirety on the Quibi platform, Reitman and friends’ The Princess Bride will be cut up and streamed daily chapter-by-chapter over a two-week period starting today, June 29th. Quibi head Jeffrey Katzenberg is also making a $1 million donation to World Central Kitchen on behalf of the project.
As Vanity Fair explains, the fan-made film stars a variety of celebrities in each of the roles within the film. So, during one chapter, Haddish and Common play Princess Buttercup and Wesley, only to have Jonas and Turner play the couple an hour into the film.
Yes, Jonas plays Buttercup and Turner plays Wesley.
Rob Reiner, who directed the original film, stars as the grandfather (originally played by Peter Falk), while Gad plays the grandson (originally played by Fred Savage).
“I wouldn’t think this is the best way to introduce someone to the film,” Reiner joked to Vanity Fair. “If you already know the movie, that’s what makes it fun. The audience already knows every line. I had no reservations. I was like, ‘Nah, let’s do it!’”
