Sophie Turner revealed that she straight-up “hated” the Jonas Brothers, and LOL

At this point, Sophie Turner is fully immersed in the Jonas Brothers world. She’s even part of her own married-in crew inspired by the family name, The J-Sisters, and has appeared in JoBro music videos. For anyone who grew up following the brother trio, from their Disney Channel heartthrob phase to now, this was the ultimate dream. But for Turner herself? She wasn’t blasting “Burning Up” in her room or plastering the JoBros’ faces to her ceiling—she was boycotting them with her friends.

In a her April cover story for Elle, Turner came clean that she was very much not a Jonas Brothers fan when she was younger, and her story is so funny.

It turns out, Turner and her group of friends blamed the Jonas Brothers for breaking up their actual favorite boy band.

“There was this band in the UK called Busted,” Turner said. “They had a hit called ‘Year 3000.’ It was amazing, and we were huge Busted fans. Then the Jonas Brothers covered the song and made it massive. And Busted broke up. We thought it was all the Jonas Brothers’ fault. So we hated them.”

But with the way fate or something like it would have it, Turner couldn’t keep her now-husband Joe Jonas from entering her life. One of her producers, who had once lived next door to the brothers, brought the idea up to Turner when they were working on a movie in 2016 saying, “You should meet Joe Jonas. I feel like you would really get along with this guy.” Then, the actress recalled another instance that happened not long after:

“I went to a meeting, and Joe’s agent was in the room. And he was like, ‘You remind me of one of my clients. I bet you two would really hit it off,’” Turner said.

The two didn’t connect directly until later that year when Jonas was touring in the UK and, in a very modern love fashion, he slid into her DMs to see if she wanted to hang out.

For Turner and her anti-JoBros friends, Joe sliding into her DMs was a golden opportunity for a really good laugh.

“When I told my friends, they were like, ‘That’s hilarious. You have to do it! And you have to text us everything he says.’”

Turner also said that she assumed Jonas was “gonna be such a dick,” but to her and her friends’ surprise, the date went really well.

“I remember the two of us spending only a couple of minutes on the dance floor, and then we just found a space far in the corner and we just talked,” Turner said. “We talked for hours, and hours, and hours. And I was, like, not bored. It wasn’t contrived. It wasn’t small talk—it was just so easy. And soon we were, like, inseparable. I went on tour with him.”

And, as we know, the rest is history. So, day-one Jonas Brothers fans, please don’t come for our Queen in the North for being a hater at first. It all makes for a better love story and we’re just glad these two found each other in the end.
