Sophie Turner got real about Sansa Stark’s wig: “My hair would’ve fallen out”
Being on Game of Thrones sounds like a nightmare for your hair. Emilia Clarke, aka Daenerys Targaryen, gave her hair a chop recently (we can imagine that her icy blonde Mother of Dragons ‘do has not been too kind to her natural hair), and now Sophie Turner just admitted that years of dyeing her hair red to play Sansa Stark almost left her without any.
"A few years ago, I was trying to go back from red to blonde, and it destroyed my hair to the point that I had to use a wig for Game of Thrones," she told Glamour. "They wouldn't let me dye it back red or my hair would've fallen out."
She now uses a WellaPlex hair mask to repair the years of Hollywood-induced follicle damage (spoiler: she has also partnered with the brand) and wore a wig during Season 7, despite years of wearing her natural hair onscreen. Turner has naturally light blonde hair but previously dyed it a rich red to play Sansa; she went back to blonde before Season 7 so she could play an Alabamian teen in the indie thriller Josie.

As with most things GoT, fans read way too much into the new color and thought it held a clue into the next season of the HBO series.
"People seemed to think [the blonde hair] was a spoiler for Game of Thrones," she told Vogue last year. "It was kind of quite flattering really, because when I first started, a lot of people didn’t like that I changed my hair to blonde, they were attached to the red on the show, which only adds to why I think hair is so important [in role development]—it ignites a connection that people feel with the character."

Turner’s hair is now a chilly ice blonde and looks healthy, long, and intact. If you—like Turner—switch your color up a lot, here are a few tips to keep your colored mane as healthy as possible.
