According to Ed Sheeran, THIS is the song of the summer
Spoiler alert: The song that Ed Sheeran chose as the song of the summer is NOT an Ed Sheeran song. Drum roll please . . .
Ed Sheeran has officially dubbed “Shut Up And Dance” by Walk The Moon the 2015 song of the summer. He shared his reasoning with Vulture, “It just makes everyone happy whenever they hear it.” It definitely makes US happy.
In spite of the song’s initial release last September, the success of “Shut Up And Dance” just keeps mounting. Within the last three months, the song has skipped to number 4 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and has sold over 2 million copies domestically.
“Shut Up and Dance” wasn’t the only tune Ed Sheeran considered for song of the summer. In fact, Ed crowned “Trap Queen” by Fetty Wap as the runner up. “It’s amazing that ‘Trap Queen’ is such a massive hit,” he said. “I love that.”
“Trap Queen” may seem like an unlikely suggestion coming from a pop crooner like Ed Sheeran, but we have to agree; that sing-songy melody is just so satisfying. Ed Sheeran even did a cover of it on Fallon just last week.
So there you have it, folks. “Shut Up And Dance” by Walk The Moon is the song of the summer and “Trap Queen” is number two. All is well with the world. By the way, while we’re on the subject of Walk The Moon, the guys just released a follow-up video to “Shut Up And Dance” this week called “Different Colors.” Talk about good timing.
Now, let’s follow the song’s instructions and just shut up and dance.
