Someone mashed up “La La Land” and “Singin’ in the Rain,” and it’s just beautiful

Given that we know the movie was inspired by old Hollywood, it was only a matter of time until someone mashed up La La Land and Singin’ in the Rain. However, we weren’t quite ready for how beautiful it would be.

We already know that La La Land is the movie that everyone is talking about. The film won big time at the Golden Globes earlier this month, and it could even be being adapted into a stage musical (something we need to happen asap).

What’s more, director Damien Chazelle has opened up about the film’s influences, including classic movies like Casablanca, An Affair to Remember, and, of course, Singin’ in the Rain, which starred the late Debbie Reynolds.

Now someone has picked up on those filmic influences and blended La La Land and Singin’ together in one incredible supercut trailer.

The clip sees “City Of Stars” from La La Land overlaid on clips from its 1952 counterpart, with scenes of Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, and Donald O’Connor spliced together to make a rather touching movie moment. In fact, we have to say that Ryan Gosling’s soft vocals and nimble piano playing actually really compliment Singin’ in the Rain‘s exuberance and old school Hollywood vibe. Not only is a it a nice homage to the younger film’s influences, but it’s also a nice send off to Debbie Reynolds, too.

Indeed, Ryan Gosling himself recently paid tribute to Reynolds. Speaking at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Gosling said that he would like to have met Reynolds to thank her for her incredible career.

"She was an inspiration to us every day. We watched Singin’ in the Rain every day for inspiration, a truly unparalleled talent so thank you to her for all that inspiration," he said.
