Someone asked J.K. Rowling about LGBT students at Hogwarts, and she gave a brilliantly wonderful answer

While romance, especially sexual orientation, was never quite the focus of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling wants us to know that Hogwarts is a safe, accepting place for students of ALL orientations and backgrounds. On Twitter, a Harry Potter fan posed the question to Rowling, asking if Hogwarts would encourage LGBT groups on campus.

J.K. Rowling replied by posting this image, as well as telling Clara Oswiin, “But of course.”

After J.K. Rowling announced that she intended for Professor Dumbledore’s character to identify with homosexuality, it makes sense that Rowling wants her readers to know that her wizarding world is very accepting, open-minded, and progressive. No one shames anyone for anything, unless it’s Draco Malfoy laughing at Ron’s Christmas sweater (and we all know Draco is just a misunderstood bully who was raised in a negative environment!).

Not only does Hogwarts have LGBT groups, Rowling says that there were several Jewish wizards attending the school —Anthony Goldstein of Ravenclaw was one of them.

J.K. Rowling has always been one of my favorite authors, and I do love her even more now, which I had no idea was possible. Thank you for making literature and magic such a safe, welcoming place for everyone.
