Solange performed on “Jimmy Fallon” and she was absolutely transcendent

Having released one of the most powerful albums of the year, Solange performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night and it was absolutely transcendent.

In September, Solange Knowles released her third album, the stunning A Seat at the Table and it’s safe to say that people were rather enamoured with it.  The album was heralded for its tender and important approach to race, femininity, family, and pain and healing. What’s more, the singer shared a behind the scenes video detailing the arduous, almost four year task of creating the record.

Now the singer has debuted two songs on Jimmy Fallon and the performance is so powerful.

The singer, joined (literally by fabric) by two backing singers, performed the opening two tracks from A Seat at the Table, “Rise” and “Weary.” Dressed in a red outfit with draping fabric joining her to her backing singers, Solange showcased some of her experimental choreography, too. The singer has been sharing videos on Instagram of herself choreographing the routines, which also featured in the two videos for “Cranes in the Sky” and “Don’t Touch My Hair.”

Solange’s outfit was, in fact, designed by her mother, Tina, and a version of the iconic look also featured in the video for “Cranes In The Sky.” The singer noted that the outfit was inspired by legendary Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake, particularly the designer’s ’99 collection.

Solange’s new album A Seat at the Table is available now. A limited edition book to accompany the record is also available.
