Sofia Coppola is remaking the Civil War romance “The Beguiled”
It’s about time for some amazing Sofia Coppola news! This movie will be definitely familiar to the seasoned movie buffs out there: Sofia will write, direct and produce a remake of The Beguiled, a classic Southern Gothic film, The Tracking Board has reported.
The Beguiled is a Civil War romance set in a Confederate girls boarding school where a Union soldier is imprisoned, recovering from his injuries. While in the school, he charms each of the women and stirs up jealousy. The original version in 1971 starred a young Clint Eastwood and is based on a novel from the same year.
This film, frankly, has Sofia Coppola written all over it and we’re pumped that Elle Fanning (Somewhere), Kirsten Dunst (The Virgin Suicides) and Nicole Kidman are all in talks to star. Hollywood is reportedly still searching for the actor to play the Confederate soldier and are “eyeing a Chris Pratt type for the part,” The Tracking Board claims.
We love Sofia’s work because of her strong female presence in Hollywood, and her unforgettable style when it comes to directing. We imagine The Beguiled will be no different, so now we just have to wait patiently for the day we can immerse ourselves in its story.
