Here’s how Chloe Kim compared to the 2014 Sochi halfpipe top scores

Snowboarder Chloe Kim has just become the youngest person to ever score a gold medal in the Olympic halfpipe with a nearly-perfect score of 98.25 (go, girl!). She wanted to compete in the 2014 Sochi Winter Games, but was unfortunately way too young at the time. Meanwhile, we also just saw Shuan White crush it in the qualifying rounds — while specifically noting that he wanted to come back from his disappointing 2014 performance.
All this talk of the 2014 games might make one wonder: What were the halfpipe results in Sochi? Valid question!
For women, snowboarder Kaitlyn Farrington took home the gold. Her win was somewhat of a surprise, as she beat three prior gold medal winners — Kelly Clark, Torah Bright, and Hannah Teter. ESPN reported that during her second run, she scored a 91.75, narrowly beating Bright to victory. Unfortunately, Farrington had to retire early from the sport due to congenital cervical stenosis. But, like the rest of us, she was watching from home.
Meanwhile, Bright took home the silver in women’s halfpipe in Sochi, with Clark winning the bronze (with all three scoring significantly lower than Kim in 2018).
For the men, Iouri Podladtchikov from Switzerland got the gold in the event, with Ayumu Hirano and Taku Hiraoka, respectively, getting the silver and bronze. Podladtchikov was expected to compete again in the current 2018 games, but unfortunately had to sit this one out after a head injury a mere three days before the competition. However, he seems to be in good spirits.
Unfortunatly, my brain needs time to recover from the bruises and i will not be able to compete. I wish all the athletes a wonderful time at the olympic games here in korea 🇰🇷,
sincerely, iouri podladtchikov🌹— Iouri Podladtchikov (@iouriamazing) February 10, 2018
We’re wishing all the current athletes the best of luck, and we’re honestly already looking forward to the halfpipe in 2022.
