Nasim Pedrad made a surprise appearance on SNL to parody Wild Wild Country, and Twitter went, well, wild

We love a good documentary, which is why we were stoked when Netflix released Wild Wild Country in March. (If you haven’t seen it yet, definitely add it to the top of your queue ASAP.) In case you haven’t heard everyone around you talking about it, here’s a quick recap. Wild Wild Country is a six-part docuseries about a cult. The Rajneeshee cult was led by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. Rajneesh established a religious community in rural Oregon in the 1980s, and the series focuses on the growth and development (and downfall) of the whole thing. It was only a matter of time until there was an SNL Wild Wild Country parody. And that time came last night.

Comedian and former SNL writer John Mulaney hosted the April 14th episode of SNL. And during his hilarious stint as host, former cast member Nasim Pedrad made a surprise appearance in the SNL Wild Wild Country spoof. You may remember that Pedrad starred alongisde Mulaney in his self-titled sitcom on Fox back in 2014. Though Mulaney only lasted one season, their chemistry was great and we loved seeing them together. It’s always special when a former cast member makes a surprise SNL appearance, but it’s even sweeter when it’s to support an ol’ pal.

Much of Rajneesh’s philosophy revolved around an open mind toward sexuality. Last night’s digital sketch definitely gave a head nod to that while also making a ridiculously exaggerated interpretation. The sketch focused on Kenan Thompson joining the cult just to pick up women. Pedrad’s role was clearly in homage to Ma Anand Sheela, the second-in-command of the actual cult.

Twitter went crazy for the SNL Wild Wild Country parody. Especially for Nasim Pedrad!

She really looked amazing.

We all miss Nasim on SNL!

She’s a De Niro in her own right, TBH.

Nasim Pedrad may not be on SNL anymore, but you can still catch her in the final season of New Girl!
