This exists: a “smart toothbrush” puts a camera inside your mouth to show where to brush
The future is not only here, it’s in your mouth. By that I mean, someone has invented a “smart toothbrush” with a camera so you can get up close and personal with your teeth while you’re brushing them. Wanna see every morsel of those fish tacos you ate earlier that day? We can make it happens.
The toothbrush is called Prophix, and it comes from Onvi, a company that specializes in dental technology. Basically, Prophix is a video toothbrush that’s paired with an app, livestreaming your brushing experience and totally changing the way we clean our teeth. It will cost you a lofty $399 — or $299 if you preorder for its debut in 2017.
The Prophix website boasts that users can take photos while they’re brushing (in case they want to zero in on a problem area), track their progress, and get tips from the app about their oral health.
Onvi was founded by Dr. Craig Kohler, who’s had 35 years of dental experience, according to Tech Optimals. Originally, Dr. Kohler used live videos during his procedures and decided to make this kind of technology available in his patient’s homes.
As odd as it sounds, a “smart toothbrush” could revolutionize the way we view our dental health by making it much more visible. We don’t normally look at the insides of our mouths in much detail, so making these intimate areas accessible means we’ll be much more aware of them. We just hope a less expensive version trickles down to us eventually!
