Warning: You won’t be able to look away from this slow motion video of hair removal
Laser hair removal is so common, one out five of your friends have probably done it. OK, I just made that statistic up, but more and more people are becoming more and more hairless. But what exactly is laser hair removal? And what does is actually do remove your hair forever?
The crew from YouTube channel Veritasium paid a visit to a beauty salon and captured laser hair removal in action using a slow motion camera. So now you can see what laser hair removal is actually doing.
In the video, they explain how it’s done. The laser creates bursts of energy, and the wavelengths are absorbed by each individual hair. AKA it looks like the “shootout at the O.K. Corral.”
The high energy light is attracted to the dark melanin pigment of hair, which is why the hair being removed must be dark enough for it to work.
The laser also works best on someone with light skin, because it’s attracted to the melanin in the hair and doesn’t burn the skin.
The laser then burns the water in hair at 210°F.
It not only destroys the hair, it damages the hair follicle and prevents the hair from growing back.
It may looks super gross and a little dead worm-like, but it’s effective.
