Skeet Ulrich announced that he’s leaving Riverdale for this honest reason
Even though Riverdale is currently on a break between seasons, the actors are still serving us shocking news. Skeet Ulrich just announced exactly why he’s leaving the CW drama after four seasons playing FP Jones, former Serpent King-turned-Riverdale sheriff. Throughout the show, FP has evolved from a drunken gang member who spent time in and out of jail to the responsible dad of Jughead and Jelly Bean. His character has had quite the transformation over four seasons, but for Ulrich, playing FP Jones apparently became stale.
Last week, Ulrich joined his girlfriend Meghan Blake Irwin on her Instagram Live. The couple answered questions that fans sent in the comments of the live stream. To the question, “Why are you leaving Riverdale?” Ulrich had a super straight-up response.
“I’m leaving Riverdale because I got bored creatively,” Ulrich said. “That’s the most honest answer.”

Riverdale fans learned the sad news that their favorite onscreen dad is leaving the show (along with Marisol Nichols, aka Hermione Lodge) back in February. However, the reasoning behind this decision was never clear until now. However, as Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed last week, Season 5 of Riverdale will pick back up with the storylines from Season 4 because production was halted due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This means that both Ulrich and Nichols will return for the first three episodes of Season 5 and will receive a proper sendoff.
Although Riverdale has a habit of killing off its cast members, Aguirre-Sacasa assured fans that neither FP nor Hermione will suffer that dreaded fate.
“The truth of it is, and this isn’t a spoiler, but neither Hermione nor FP are being killed,” he told TVLine. “So my hope is that they are a part of Riverdale in a real way as long as there’s a Riverdale.”
We’re relieved that we haven’t seen the last of FP Jones just yet, but we can’t help but wonder how things will play out once he’s gone. Alice Cooper and FP finally reconciled their relationship last season, but will their star-crossed romance be done for good? An even bigger question: Who will replace FP as the Riverdale sheriff? We have a sneaking suspicion Jughead might follow in his dad’s footsteps. Or, worst-case scenario (which is the most dramatic choice that Riverdale writers typically opt for) would be Hiram Lodge. Nothing is off the table in Riverdale.
