Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is becoming a musical, because these jeans are never going out of style
Step aside Mean Girls: The Musical, because *another* one of our favorite teen ’00s movies is coming to the stage. Soon, we’ll all be singing along to songs about long-distance best friends and the perfect pair of jeans, because Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is being made into a musical.
The OG 2005 movie starred Alexis Bledel, Blake Lively, America Ferrera, and Amber Tamblyn, and followed a group of four teen friends who, having to spend the summer apart for the first time, decide to keep in touch using a pair of jeans that inexplicably happens to fit all four them. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and it’s 2008 movie sequel, were based on the bestselling YA novels by Ann Brashares.
According to BuzzFeed, the stage musical is being produced by Tony-winning producer Scott Delman and his production company, Blue Spruce Productions, which recently brought Mean Girls and Waitress to Broadway. While it appears the stage musical is still in early production, we already have so many ideas for it. While the stage adaptation of Mean Girls was given a more updating setting, we hope the Sisterhood musical retains its original setting — complete with ’00s fashion and pop music.
The cast of the Sisterhood films have remained incredibly tight in the decade-plus since the first film came out, often teasing their mini reunions on Instagram. The four have also all expressed interest in returning for another film, with Bledel and Tamblyn each confirming that they’ve been working to bring that dream to life. In April, Bledel even revealed on the Tonight Show that they’d pitched a third movie.
We’ve spent the last decade waiting for more Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and now we could possibly be *blessed* with two projects in the near future!
No word on the specific style of jeans coming to the stage musical, but we’re personally hoping they keep it classic ’00s with a pair of bedazzled-pocketed bootcut jeans.
