Let’s talk about why there’s ‘Simpsons’ graffiti all over this city
Did you guys know that The Simpsons will be starting its 27th season in September?! Did you also see that Harry Shearer will indeed be returning (thank heavens). All of which is to say, that the most lovable animated family of all time will continue to hold the titles for longest-running animated American series, longest-running American sitcom, and longest-running American scripted primetime TV show. That’s a lot of titles, but for 26 hilarious seasons of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie — it’s not at all surprising. You know what also isn’t surprising? The dedication that countless mega Simpsons fans have for the first family of animation — specifically, in Chicago.
DNAinfo in Chicago reports that its residents not only adore The Simpsons, they’re super creative in how they show their adoration. To celebrate their love-love relationship with Homer and fam, Chicagoans have decorated the city in all things Simpsons. There isn’t any specific, “We love The Simpsons, let’s decorate the city” club — people are just doing their own thing, all in the name of Simpsons love. If you live in Chicago and want to see some Simpsons graffiti, all you need to do is look around. It’s everywhere! People just love the show so much, they can’t help but express themselves about it. Why is it happening? Your guess is as good as ours. We’re putting some money down though on the idea that many think the series takes place in Illinois (as the Simpsons live in Springfield), though where exactly they live has actually never been confirmed.
So thanks to DNAinfo, we are paying their Simpsons finds forward by sharing with you some of the Simpsons graffiti tags and other Simpsons-themed shoutouts that have been found throughout the city of Chicago.
