Simon & Schuster needs your help writing a Taylor Swift book
It’s clear that 2015 has pretty much been Taylor Swift’s year. Coming off 2014’s release of 1989, she’s had a lot of major moments during the past 12 months, from standing up to Apple to helping countless fans in the best of ways. And though we at HelloGiggles may be all about T-Swift, we’ve gotta hand the ultimate title of super-fan to Simon & Schuster.
The publisher, which claims to employ “more Swifties per capita than any other publishing house,” is planning on publishing a crowdsourced book about the pop star’s decade-long career. Taylor is not affiliated with the book.
“To celebrate the first decade of Taylor’s career, we are inviting fans around the country to help us create and publish a beautifully illustrated scrapbook that contains the best of all things Swift, to be released on October 24, 2016, the ten-year anniversary of her first album,” the publishing house wrote in a statement. “Think of it as a very elaborate mash note.”
But in order to do it, they’re asking for the help of Swift fans around the world. And yes, there will be prizes. Simon & Schuster is asking fans to come up with the best titles (the winning one will receive $2,500), and they’re also asking for Swifties to submit contributions. Though it’s a “group effort,” one person will win the title of “honorary author,” who will “help us pick the best content for the book and act as the public face of the project in the media.” That person will win a whopping $10,000 and will be flown to New York “for a press tour, a book signing in Manhattan, potential appearances on major media outlets, and more.”
Yesterday, these contests opened to the public, and you can submit here until January 13, 2016. But even if you miss that month-long bracket, the ultimate T-Swift book doesn’t end there. Graphic designers and artists will be happy to know that the publisher is also opening a contest on February 1st until March 1st for the ultimate cover design; the winner will be paid $5,000.
“I’ve loved Taylor Swift’s work from the first song she released in 2006,” S&S senior editor Jofie Ferrari-Adler said in the announcement. “Like many of my favorite artists, she is first and foremost an extraordinary writer, and I can’t wait until she decides to publish her own books. But until that day arrives, I hope that other Swifties around the country will want to get involved and help us make this book a worthy celebration of her first ten years.”
On top of fan contributions, the book will include pieces by culture writers like Sasha Frere-Jones, Ann Powers, Lizzie Widdicombe, Chuck Klosterman, Jody Rosen, and Jada Yuan.
Fans are already taking to Twitter to share their contributions using the hashtag #SwiftFanBook. (But please be aware that in order to officially submit your contributions, you have to go to the official site!)
Other Swifties are just expressing their SHEER EXCITEMENT:
