Prepare to fangirl: Sigourney Weaver will be in the new ‘Ghostbusters’

This is not a drill! It has been announced that Sigourney Weaver will be guest starring in the highly anticipated Ghostbusters reboot. Weaver was, of course, a part of the 1984 original Ghostbusters franchise, portraying Dana Barrett — Dr. Peter Venkman’s love interest and a New York musician who gets possessed by Zuul.

Director Paul Feig shared the awesome casting news in a recent tweet.

The reboot is already set to star a cast full of badass and hilarious women, and Weaver’s addition makes fans all the more excited. Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones will make up our ladies in grey. With a crew of women this funny and talented, seeing the film when it hits the big screen will be a no-brainer. Chris Hemsworth will portray the Ghostbusters’ receptionist, which is bound to be entertaining. Original cast members, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Annie Potts, and Ernie Hudson will also be making cameos in the reboot. Earlier this year, Paul Feig tweeted the first look photo of the Ghostbusters’ in full gear, sporting their proton packs and posing in front of the Ecto-1. If this photo alone doesn’t make you excited for the released of this film, I don’t know what will.

Whether Weaver will be portraying Dana or a new character has not yet been released, but chances are she’ll be taking on an original part just like her former costars. Murray will be appearing as a paranormal debunker named Martin Heiss, and Aykroyd will be popping up as a conspiracy theory loving taxi driver.

Now we just have to wait until July 2016 when Ghostbusters hits theaters to see it in all its girl power, ghost-blasting glory.
