If you and your significant other do *this* at home, you probably have more sex

Out of all the things that could pump up your sex life, I bet you’d never expect household chores to be on the list. According to a study published in the Journal of Marriage and Family, though, (heterosexual) couples who share the load of keeping the house clean have sex 6.8 times a month, compared to those who don’t divide it up evenly and have sex 5 times a month.
An author of the study, Sharon Sassler, said, “Contemporary couples who adhere to a more egalitarian division of labour are the only couples who have experienced an increase in sexual frequency compared to their counterparts of the past.” Who knew vacuuming could be so sexy?!
Apparently, it’s about more than just delegating duties to each other evenly. It’s also about sharing them fairly. That means these hot and bothered couples aren’t just sticking to the traditional chores, like the woman cleans up the kitchen while the guy mows the lawn. Rather, they’re cutting across traditional gender lines to really, truly share the household work. So, yeah, you’re more likely to see women replacing light bulbs and men cleaning out the fridge. Rad.
“Relationship quality and stability are generally highest when couples are happy with their divisions of labor and find them equitable and fair,” Sassler says.
As relationships are evolving, researchers are seeing that living out gender equality has more positive benefits than expected. Not only do we find it to be fair, it’s downright sexy, too. Sounds like a win-win to us!
