This sign about harassing female bartenders should be plastered across every bar
We have a new favorite bar. It’s called the Beer Cellar, and we want to go there for reasons other than the craft beer. The pub in Exeter in the U.K. shared a sign they created for customers who harass the female bartenders. The sign is a cheeky — yet important — reminder that just because a woman in a service industry is nice to you, it doesn’t mean that she’s sexually interested in you.
The sign supporting female bartenders gained attention after the Beer Cellar’s Twitter account shared a picture of it with this caption:
"This is definitely our favourite sign in the bar. Also if dudes could stop trying to kiss our female bartender's hands that would be great."
Seems like even with the sign, people aren’t giving the female bartenders at the Beer Cellar the common decency and respect they deserve — and sometimes they are even sexually harassing them. Which is a shame, since the sign is pretty much PERFECT.
It reads, “Why the female cashier is being nice to you” and has two options:
She is uncontrollably sexually attracted to you
Because that’s literally her fucking job you cretin

And obviously, the second answer is the correct one.
“We basically just printed it out after we had a very sex-pest heavy weekend about three months ago,” Beer Cellar bartender Lauren Dew told Mashable. “People really laugh, people support it. One percent think it’s a bit offensive, which is funny to me because those are the people it’s aimed at.”
The sign was created by illustrator Charlotte Mullin to be put up in the bar. And the artist knows a thing or two about unwanted male attention and sexism while at work, since she did retail for years. “You’re obviously pressured to give A+ customer service, and loads of people would interpret common hospitality as romantic interest,” Mullin told Mashable. “I wanted to make it clear that female staff are nice to you because they have to be!” She continued:
"And, of course, most of us are decent human beings and would be nice to you anyway, but in no way does this mean we're dying for your dick."
Although the sign is funny, it’s also teaching a valuable lesson: Just because a woman is nice to you, that doesn’t mean she’s flirting with you. So treat females in the service industry like the professionals they are — because respect and gender equality is something we should all be able to cheers to.
