Sia’s new video will make you feel like you can conquer anything
The music video for Sia’s “Alive” is exactly that: it’s alive.
You may be watching the video as its pixels flicker across your screen, but it doesn’t feel that way. Instead, “Alive” rises above this virtual barrier and manages to impressively tap into your emotions.
The video – which was directed by Sia and Daniel Askill – stars a young girl in a signature Sia wig, but with a twist. This particular wig may be half-black and half-blonde, and the little girl wearing it is all power. As she performs a breathtaking display of martial arts, Sia’s muse perfectly embodies the Shakespeare quote Though she be but little, she is fierce.
While the backdrop for this particular project may be a grey, simplistic warehouse, the talented girl makes this space come alive. Her movements are precise and seemingly lethal. Clad in a plain, cream-colored robe fastened with a black belt, she allows her passionate expression to speak for itself. Most importantly, this young girl not only serves as a symbol of inspiration for all viewers – she also proves that young girls have the potential to do anything they set out to accomplish.
As Sia sings, “I knew what I wanted, I went in and got it / Did all the things that you said that I wouldn’t / I told you that I would never be forgotten,” and the martial artist unleashes her inner power, it’s almost impossible to not get chills. It’s almost impossible to not feel that you can conquer any obstacle that appears before you.
While we may not know this young girl’s name, we do know one thing: she’ll serve as the perfect influence when we need someone to remind us that we have an incredible amount of strength within us.
