Shonda Rhimes teased a “fire” season finale of “Grey’s Anatomy,” and we’re feeling pretty nervous about it

Things could be about to get very, very dramatic at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, as Shonda Rhimes has teased the Grey’s Anatomy finale, saying it’s “on fire.”

While much of this season of Grey’s has been pretty low key, things in the last few episodes have begun to take the typically melancholic and dramatic turn as the show’s 13th Season reaches a close. Not only did we have the emotional scenes with Dr. Maggie Pierce and her mother (*sobs*), but on set photos and rumors have teased that we might finally get introduced to Dr. Jo Wilson’s estranged and abusive husband.

Pictures emerged of former Glee star Matthew Morrison on set shooting with Justin Chambers, who plays Dr. Alex Karev, and it all looked pretty sinister and mysterious.

Now longtime showrunner and creator of Grey’s Anatomy Shonda Rhimes has been teasing the show’s season finale, and we’re getting pretty nervous about it all.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly during the party to celebrate fellow Shondaland show Scandal’s 100th episode, Rhimes teased that things are getting explosive.

"[Fellow showrunner] Debbie Allen and I like to say that the episode is on fire, she teased. "That’s the only way we’re going to describe it. It’s a pretty exciting episode that’s very on fire.

OMG! What does this mean? Will the hospital literally go up in flames!? Given how dramatic the season finales of Grey’s Anatomy usually are (hey, who remembers the shooting and the plane crash!), it’s entirely possible that the whole hospital could literally blow up.

When quizzed about whether she was talking metaphorically or literally, Rhimes refused to clarify.

“I don’t know about that,” she teased.

Also speaking about the episode, Debbie Allen, who directed the episode, told how things were heating up.

“I can only tease that it’s going to be hot for real; it’s on fire,” she hinted. “We had night shoots and we were up all night for a couple of weeks, but boy it was great. I was so excited every day.”

In fact, Allen even said that fans of the show should be worried.

"Be worried, because it’s that kind of night," she said. "It’s going to be that kind of a ride.

OH GOSH!!!! We love that Grey’s is full of drama, but PLEASE DON’T KILL ANYONE SHONDA!

Meanwhile, Allen also teased the show’s “spectacular” upcoming 14th Season, noting that things were being set up nicely.

“We’re planting some seeds that you won’t see coming, but you will be waiting to see how it’s all going to play out,” she teased.

*Sweats*

All this teasing is making us feel hella worried about what’s in store for our fave surgeons. Will there be a literal fire, or are things going to heat up between the characters. OR BOTH!?

Grey’s Anatomy continues Thursdays on ABC.
