The Shins announced the title of their new album and released a new single called “Name For You”
Get excited, because The Shins are OFFICIALLY back with their first full album in nearly five years: Heartworms. The group made the announcement for their fifth studio album yesterday, along the release of their single “Name for You” and a lyric video for the song. The album, which is being released on March 10th, marks a bit of a return to their roots, as lead singer and songwriter James Mercer produced nearly the entire album, with “So Now What” being produced by Richard Swift. This marks the first self-produced album for the band since 2001 LP Oh, Inverted World.
Check out the lyric video for “Name for You” Below:
Single “Name for You” is an infectious pop ode to Mercer’s daughters, which features so amazingly feminist lyrics such as,
“Better take it one sip at a time/ Somebody with an antique notion/ Come along to tighten the line/ They're just afraid of you speaking your mind.
Not gonna lie, we’re digging this.
Of producing the album himself, Mercer said,
“I wanted to do something more handmade.I wanted to get back into the production and engineering side of the work as well as the writing.
Along with the album announcement, the group announced a mini-tour across the U.S. between March and June. While we’re hoping this is just a preamble to a larger U.S. tour, we’re happy to see them playing new music wherever we can! If the rest of the songs are half as impressive as “Name for You” we’ll be excited! Meanwhile, we’ll be counting down the days to March 10th.
