Sheryl Sandberg’s new book, “Option B,” is being pre-ordered by us all

When someone close to you dies, it’s often helpful to read about someone else’s experience and about how that person deals with grief. Because grief can become more manageable when it’s done collectively. With this in mind, Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg’s new book on grief and resilience might be exactly the book you need to read right now.
On Tuesday, Sandberg shared news on Facebook about her book. Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience and Finding Joy is currently available for pre-order on Amazon and will become available on April 24th.
So obviously we’ve already put in our pre-order.
The book follows Sandberg’s personal journey with grief after the death of her husband David Goldberg, who died suddenly from a heart condition two years ago. And it’s so brutally relatable for anyone who has lost someone.
"A few weeks after my husband Dave died, I was talking to my friend Philip Deutch about a father-son activity that Dave was not here to do," Sandberg wrote on Facebook. "We came up with a plan for someone to fill in so my son would not have to miss out. I cried, 'But I want Dave.' Phil put his arm around me and said, 'Option A is not available. So let’s just kick the shit out of Option B.'"
The idea of option B is so relatable it hurts.
Adam Grant, a professor of management at Wharton and best-selling author of Originals, wrote the book with Sandberg, incorporating his own research.
“Option B is our attempt to share what we’ve learned,” she added. “Part of the book comes from my personal experience and my journals, and part comes from the work Adam and other psychologists have done on resilience,” Sandberg wrote on Facebook. “These stories reveal the capacity of the human spirit not only to persevere . . . but to rediscover joy.”
We hope writing the book was healing for Sandberg, as we’re sure it will be for so many others as they read it.
