“Sherlock” just dropped three cryptic clues for Season 4, what do they mean??
We are still AT LEAST 159 days away from Sherlock Season 4. It was announced that the BBC drama will return sometime in 2017, and it’s going to be a very long wait to see what happens to our Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.
Over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, the first full-length trailer for the upcoming season was released, and oh my Moriarty. This season is taking a very dark, and scary turn, plus there are EXPLOSIONS. The stakes feel incredibly high for our duo (plus Mary, don’t forget about Mary), and hopefully they all make it out the other end in one piece.
During the Sherlock panel, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), Amanda Abbington (Mary), and Mark Gatiss (co-creator/executive producer/writer/Mycroft) were pretty tight lipped about what’s coming up in 159 days. But! They did drop three incredibly cryptic clues, in three different words:
Thatcher, Smith, Sherrinford
THANKS TO GOOGLE, we can sorta figure out a little bit what they mean.
Thatcher…well that’s anyone’s guess right now. For Smith, that’s a name of a doctor in the Sherlock Holmes story, “The Adventure of the Dying Detective.” And if you’ve watched the trailer for Season 4, yeah, it does kinda seem that Sherlock is on the brink of completely breaking down.
As for Sherrinford, that’s actually hinted at to be the other OTHER Holms sibling. Yes. Mycroft even very vaguely alludes to another Holmes child in the Season 3 finale, “His Last Vow,” when he states, “you know what happened to the other one,” in reference to his brother Sherlock.
Is there more to Sherlock’s family than we’ve seen? Is there a ~secret~ brother out there? Ugh, 2017 and new Sherlock episodes can’t come soon enough.
