We might know when “Sherlock” is ending and yes we are PANICKING
Alert, alert, we’ve got new Sherlock news today.
Since this might be bummer news, how about we first gaze at the brand-new Sherlock image from the upcoming Season 4? It’s got our Sherlock Holmes (the ever-wonderful Benedict Cumberbatch) hanging out with a dog. Love everything about this.
Okay, now it’s time to break some Sherlock news to you.
While we hope and pray that the show continues on forever, with Cumberbatch in his 90s still running amuck around London with his BFF John Watson (Martin Freeman), it probably won’t happen, and that’s something we’re going to have to learn to accept. We at least hope it continues on for another season — or two, or ten — but that might be a little unrealistic, too. The BBC show is returning ~*sometime*~ this year (or maybe next), and after this season…there might not be any more new Sherlock.
Repeat: NO. MORE. NEW. SHERLOCK.
Talking to The Telegraph, co-creator and showrunner Steven Moffant gently broke the news to us.
“I don’t know how long we can keep it going,” He explained. “I’m personally willing but I’m hardly the main draw. I would be moderately surprised if this was the last time we ever made this show. But it absolutely could be.”
It absolutely could be. Let that phrase echo through your mind for the rest of the day, while you grapple with the fact that the upcoming Season 4 could be the end of Sherlock.
Keep in mind, it might not be the end. But seeing as how both Chumberbatch and Freeman’s star-power continues to rise (they’re both Marvel heroes now!!) the two might simply be too busy to keep the show going.
Deep breath. We’ll get through this together.
