Sherlock is getting his own escape room, and the clues will literally be afoot
Come, Sherlock fans, come! The game is afoot. Not a word! Into your clothes and come! In other words, pack your bags and get ready to put your detective skills to the test as an immersive Sherlock escape room will open in London later this year.
The creative minds behind the BBC series — co-creators Steven Moffatt and Mark Gatiss and executive producer Sue Vertue — have teamed up with Time Run, a leading escape room company, to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience for fans called the Sherlock: The Game is Now. Players will be tasked by no other than Mycroft Holmes to solve all sorts of puzzles and challenges as part of a mission for The Network. Unfortunately, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are MIA, so it’s up to you and your friends to save London from impending doom.
According to Gatiss, the experience will be exactly like “being in the show.”
It will run in a span of 90 minutes and spread across 17,000 square feet, in which you’ll get to immerse yourself in famous Sherlock sets, and interact with the cast through video messages.
"So, there is an element of familiar settings, and environments, and plots, which will make you feel like you’re in Sherlock," Gatiss dished. "But then, obviously, as the narrative winds its way on, you go to new places, to solve the clues and solve the case. It’s as close as you can get to being in an episode without becoming an actor, working for years of disappointment, and gradually dragging your weary carcass into the show!"
Though Season 5 of the BBC show isn’t going to happen any time soon, maybe this escape room will be enough to hold us all over in the meantime.
Mycroft has put out the call. The Network needs volunteers. Can you fill the shoes of the legendary Sherlock Holmes?

The Game is Now is slated to open in October, with tickets costing 54 British pounds or roughly 72 US dollars. If you can’t make it to London, there’s no need to worry — Time Run is also planning to launch it globally.
"It’s a very portable idea," said Gatiss. "It’s not reliant on cast availability. I mean, once it works as a unit, it would be a great thing to reproduce."
