This dog was returned to the shelter for being “too nice,” and we are NOT happy

Adopting a shelter dog is a wonderful process — not only do you vastly improve the life of a pup, but you’re able to expand your family with someone who really wants to be included. Of course, sometimes the match just doesn’t work out; either because the dog doesn’t get along with another household pet, or because their personality may not be compatible with your lifestyle. That said, we never thought we’d see the day when a dog would get returned to a shelter for “being too nice.”  But that’s what happened at Fulton County Animal Services in Atlanta, Georgia.

It seems that an adorable dog named Helena was returned because she was just too loving. “Her new owners said she was too nice and just wanted to be around them all the time,” the shelter’s Facebook status read.

While it sometimes makes sense to return a dog, this isn’t making a whole lotta sense to us. Dogs are a lifelong commitment, and they require training, patience, and a lot of love — especially rescues, who may have suffered from some trauma in their lives.

LifeLine was understanding about the return. Since Helena is a Boxer mix, her original adoptive parents thought she’d be more independent. “The owners were looking for a more independent dog, and Helena just isn’t that,” they explained.

The good news is that Helena was quickly scooped up by another household. On March 7th, it was announced that she had found a (hopefully permanent) home.

We’re sending Helena all of the cuddles because she’s clearly such a good doggo.
