Sheldon is getting his own “Big Bang Theory” spin off — and there’s a huge twist
Are you ready to go back in time to the first Bazinga ever? If this is some sort of origin story you’d love to put your eyes on, then we have some great news for you: There’s a Sheldon Big Bang Theory spin-off TV show in the works, and yes, it’s going to be all about Sheldon…it’s going to be all about young Sheldon, because this is a Big Bang Theory prequel, and oh my gosh.
Bazinga, indeed.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, who first broke the news, CBS is looking to keep Big Bang Theory on the air for literally all of eternity, and then some. They’re in the process of developing a spin-off show that will focus on our favorite rules-following roommate, Sheldon. Details about the show are scarce right now, but supposedly, it’ll…
“Center around the young version of Emmy winner Jim Parsons’ Dr. Sheldon Cooper. Insiders describe the project as Malcolm in the Middle but with a young and potentially teenage version of Sheldon.”
With a young, teenage Sheldon, this sadly means that we won’t get to see young Leonard, Penny, Howard, Raj, Bernadette, or Amy Fowler Fowler (laugh-cries at the thought of young, teenage Sheldon trying to interact with a young, teenage Amy Fowler Fowler).
But this does mean we could expect Sheldon’s mom, Mary (played by Laurie Metcalf)!
Right now, the show is simply just called Sheldon (makes sense) and Sheldon will be around 12-years-old-ish. It’s being handled by The Big Bang co-creator/executive producer Chuck Lorre, along with executive producer and showrunner Steve Molaro, and our current present-day Sheldon, Jim Parsons. Currently, there is no script for the show — yet — but it’s basically already assumed that this show will be picked up to series.
