This Fast Fashion Site Is Selling A Swastika Necklace—Yes, Seriously
Fast fashion retailer SHEIN is getting called out on Twitter for selling an item dubbed “Metal Swastika Pendant Necklace.” Screenshots of the listing began to go viral earlier today, July 9th, and the backlash caused the company to remove the listing from its site. However, Twitter isn’t letting it go and has major thoughts on the situation.
Instagram user @hereforthetea2 was one of the first to point out the necklace on the brand’s site. “SHEIN, a company that’s become popular for YouTube “try on hauls,” appears to be selling swastika necklaces?!!! I am disgusted,” the user wrote, tagging SHEIN in the caption.

The image was soon picked up by Twitter users who spread the word like wildfire—so much so that SHEIN removed the listing about an hour after @hereforthetea2 posted the original image.
However, the company has yet to release a statement regarding the issue.
This is for sale right now on @SHEIN_official. What the hell?? pic.twitter.com/Ldvp7zGenL

I probably am (was) the most loyal @SHEIN_official customer around, but now I’ll be taking my business to @zaful_official or really any other company that doesn’t have such repulsive disregard for what that swastika represents to the millions of people killed by those who wore it https://t.co/y5cyvdKKjh

It seems like no one has seen this disgusting and #antisemitic product @SHEIN_official is selling. Time to boycott this company not only because of their unsustainable fast fashion, but their support of hate. Not really surprised tbh #shein pic.twitter.com/WARUgvZWqY

As one Twitter user pointed out, the pendant in question could be the religious Buddhist swastika rather than the co-opted Nazi swastika. But even if that’s the case, the hateful ideology connected to the swastika overshadows any other intent. Also, the product name is literally “metal swastika pendant necklace.”
Bottom line: This item should have never been conceived, created, or sold.

People reported that less than a week ago, SHEIN marketed prayer rugs with Islamic symbolism as decorative carpets, offending many in the Muslim community. This listing was also removed from the site after social media users shared their outrage.
SHEIN posted an apology on Instagram on July 4th, calling its marketing of prayer rugs as decor, “a serious mistake.” It’s clear, though, that the people behind the brand didn’t learn much, nor did they “educate [themselves] on different cultures, religions, and traditions,” as they had vowed to do in their apology.
This is a big yikes (times two).
