I tried the Shayla x ColourPop collection and it made me feel like a beauty guru
ColourPop is by far one of my favorite brands when it comes to high-quality, affordable makeup. I also love that ColourPop shows so much diversity by consistently collaborating with beauty influencers of color. The latest ColourPop collab is with beauty guru Shayla Mitchell (aka @makeupshayla).
Shayla is known in the social media beauty-scape as a creator of color who shows her subscribers makeup techniques that can be used day-to-day to “strut and slay” — as she would say. As a HUGE fan of Shayla, I jumped on the opportunity to get the entire collection as soon as it released. I knew my sister in my head would not let me down.
HelloGiggles caught up with Shayla in April at the launch event in L.A. where she spoke about having free rein throughout the process and her wish to make a collection that everyone could use. The finished collection is so versatile, fun, and reflective of Shayla as a creative who inspires women to be confident and walk around like the world is their own personal runway.
The collection features a 16-shade eyeshadow palette, three lipsticks, two Luster Dusters (loose highlighters), and one lip gloss. The collection ranges from $6 to $23. You can also get the full line as a set for $59 on ColourPop’s website.
Because I was excited to test out this collection, here are my honest thoughts.
This is just one look I created with the collection.
There are so many things I can do with this collection that I don’t even know where to start.
Eyeshadow Palette
I was most excited for the eyeshadow palette, and let’s just say Shayla and ColourPop didn’t disappoint. From the great pigmentation to the gorgeous packaging, this palette is a big win. There are bolds, neutrals, and smoky shades, so the opportunities are endless when it comes to creating different looks. I can see this slowly but surely becoming my go-to eyeshadow palette.
Creme Lux Lipsticks
Cheekily named Oouuu, C’Mon Sis, and Quickie, these everyday lipstick shades are perfect for every occasion, and they complement a range of skin tones. They are highly pigmented with a creamy satin finish that leaves your lips SUPER comfortable. In my makeup look above, I paired C’mon Sis and Quickie with just a little bit of the collection’s Ultra Glossy lip.
Ultra Glossy Lip
Over the years, I have slowly pulled back from the hype around matte lips. Glossy and highlighted lips are my favorite kind of look, so I knew I would appreciate the lip gloss in the collection. Though I’d probably never wear it alone, paired with the lipsticks in this collection or your favorite nude, it can definitely transform a basic lipstick into something fabulous.
Luster Dusters Loose Highlighters
I’m personally not a fan of loose highlighters. They can be so messy. However, it’s hard for me not to gravitate towards these. Their pigmentation is great, and you can build up the highlight to your desired intensity. Though they are meant to be used highlighters, I’m sure they’ll make good eyeshadow and body shimmer as well.
Final Thoughts:
I don’t usually run out to buy limited-edition makeup collections, but when I do, it’s because I know they won’t collect dust on my vanity. The Shayla x ColorPop collab hit the nail on the head with this collection. It’s versatile in the sense that you can create everyday looks with the products, but you can also let your creative juices flow.
If you’re on the fence about getting the collection, I definitely think you should before it goes away. You won’t regret it — OKURR.
