Shawn Mendes’ music video for “Never Be Alone” will make you want to search for your long lost love

Brace yourself for some feels, because Shawn Mendes just released the music video for his single “Never Be Alone,” and it will pull on so many of your heartstrings you might as well just preemptively rip them out yourself. The Vine-phenom-turned-pop-star has been taking the music scene by storm lately, but those of us who have been merrily foot-tapping along to “Something Big” since it charted on iTunes last year (honesty hour: it’s at the top of my “RUN SUPER FAST” mix) were probably unprepared for this soulful, heartfelt, excuse-me-while-I-toy-with-your-emotions song that followed it.

In the new video the 16-year-old singer, who is set to open for Taylor Swift on her upcoming 1989 tour, sings about the struggles of maintaining a long-distance relationship, while writing his thoughts in a secluded cabin in the woods that is basically all of your fairy-woodland-creature fantasies come to life. It also features the object of his affection, an unnamed girl wandering through the woods in search of him and showcasing some views of the landscape so breathtaking that you too will want to go on a hapless search for your long lost musician boyfriend without a compass, map, or seemingly any method of communicating with the outside world. The teen took to Twitter to announce the video, and also to let fans know that this video is actually the first installment of an entire video series he is planning for his debut album, “Handwritten.” It seems that his recent song “Something Big” was more than a little prophetic, because something tells me with the roll his career is on that the “something” is only going to get bigger form here. Here’s hoping this ballad gets some airplay during Taylor Swift’s tour, which I will be attending, because duh.
