Shawn Johnson East revealed that she suffered a miscarriage just hours after learning she was pregnant

Olympic medalist Shawn Johnson East has her share of victories under her belt. She earned some shiny hardware at 2008 Olympics and married football player Andrew East last year. But yesterday, the couple opened up about the hardship they’re now facing. In an emotional video, Johnson East revealed she had a miscarriage.

After retiring from gymnastics, Johnson East kept busy. She partnered with Dove for the #MyBeautyMySay campaign and continues to share important words about body image. Now, she’s sharing her struggle to offer support to anyone going through the same thing. Johnson East opened up about miscarrying her first child in an emotional YouTube video.

Titled “pregnancy + heartbreak,” the 20-minute video features Shawn and Andrew telling their story together.

“The past 48 hours have been some of the happiest, scariest, and saddest times of my life, Johnson East captioned the video. “My husband Andrew and I found out that we were unexpectedly pregnant, only to find out hours later some tragic news. I have been crying more than I ever have, but am still optimistic for what is next.

In the video, Johnson East gives details of the devastating experience with her husband right by her side. She documented the entire process, from the moment her pregnancy tests turned positive to telling her husband to learning that she miscarried.

“This is by far the hardest video we’ve ever posted but we felt as though it was a story that needed to be shared as so many struggle with the same thing, Johnson East wrote on Instagram alongside a screenshot from the video. “@andrewdeast I love you more than anything in this world and I know you are going to make the greatest Daddy in the world someday. Thank you for being my rock through all of this.

While the couple is struggling, East has said that the experience changed them for the better.

"We've grown through this, babe, and I can't emphasize enough how proud I am of you," he said.

We’re thankful that Shawn and Andrew were comfortable sharing their story. Our hearts are with them.
