Shakira graduated from an Ivy League philosophy class during quarantine, and we’re inspired

While many of us are using our time in quarantine to watch The Office reruns or bake banana bread (no shame—it’s all good!), Shakira just straight-up graduated from an Ivy League ancient philosophy course. She took the class online, and she shared proof of the good news on Instagram.

Shakira proudly showed off her new certificate in a series of photos on April 23rd. She graduated from the four-week course Ancient Philosophy: Plato & His Predecessors via the University of Pennsylvania. It seems that finding the time to fully crush a philosophy class while at home with two kids was no easy feat for the music icon—duh. But she managed to pull it off with some late nights at her laptop.

“I know…my hobbies are very impractical, but it took a lot of hours after the kids were asleep,” she wrote in the caption. “Thank you Plato and predecessors for all the ‘fun’ over the past month!”

We’re fully impressed with her dedication to her course, and we love how excited she looks in her selfies. She’s giving a thumbs up and even bringing out her laptop to share the on-screen version of her certificate. What a boss move.

A few weeks ago, Shakira posted an Instagram video taken by her husband, Gerard Piqué, showing her hard at work on her course. In her caption, she joked, “Just a benign ancient philosophy course at @uofpenn to make the confinement productive. I have to be able to think about other things rather than Paw Patrol!!” Parents everywhere know the feeling, we’re sure.

If you’re inspired by Shakira’s schoolwork during quarantine, you can take her exact class for free online right now.

Ancient Philosophy: Plato & His Predecessors” is available on Coursera.

“What is philosophy? How does it differ from science, religion, and other modes of human discourse? This course traces the origins of philosophy in the Western tradition in the thinkers of Ancient Greece,” it says in the course description.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg, though. Class Central lists free online classes from all eight Ivies: Brown, Harvard, Cornell, Princeton, Dartmouth, Yale, Columbia, and, yes, UPenn. There are classes on everything from “The Science of Well-Being” to “Shakespeare’s Hamlet” and everything in between.
