Shailene Woodley made *such* a good point about Thanksgiving in the midst of #NoDAPL, and we couldn’t love her more

Today in Actual Queens of the Day, Shailene Woodley explained why #NoDAPL matters and why it’s not okay to pretend it isn’t happening, especially considering the time of year. Woodley spent Thanksgiving with water protectors at Standing Rock and made a video to remind us that the Dakota Access Pipeline is still an issue, especially considering the history of Thanksgiving.

At the end of the day, we can’t afford to let Standing Rock’s Native American protestors continue to be harmed and act as if it doesn’t have very real roots in our not too distant history. Shailene Woodley is using her platform to make sure we don’t ignore this important issue, and we’re cheering her on.

In a video posted to Facebook, Shailene Woodley made such an important point about why we need to talk #NoDAPL this holiday season.

In the video, Woodley explains,

"Today is a day that many call Thanksgiving, and it's a day where kids in elementary school in America are taught false narratives about our native brothers and sisters."

She continued,

"From the time we're little kids, we cut out in cardboard paper pictures of pilgrims and feasts and turkeys, and yet none of our children know the truth about not only what happened to Native Americans when Westerners decided to colonize this country, but what is still happening to Native Americans."

And Shailene Woodley just isn’t having it. She got *so* real, saying,

"Thanksgiving was founded on a massacre and yet we're here with cops and snipers with rubber bullets and I'm sick of it."

We’re cheering her on. If #NoDAPL is an issue you feel passionate about, here’s how you can support the water protectors at Standing Rock.
