Shailene Woodley was arrested, but you might want to hear her out for the reason why

Shailene Woodley arrested? Say it ain’t so!

While getting arrested sounds like a bad thing, you might want to hear why Woodley was locked up before you get too upset. The 24-year-old actress was arrested in North Dakota on Monday, TMZ reported. What did the Divergent actress do to get herself into hot water? She was peacefully protesting!

Woodley, who has always been passionate about nature and helping the environment was reportedly arrested during a peaceful protest of the Dakota Access Pipeline. The young star was said to be trespassing in Sioux County in North Dakota on a construction site when the police came and arrested her.

The Fault in Our Stars actress wasn't alone in the protest. There were about 100 other protestors standing by Woodley as they protested the building of the pipeline, which is currently set to be built on Standing Rock Sioux land and burial grounds, which is NOT cool.

According to TMZ, on Sunday, a Federal appeals court rejected the request to stop the construction on the land and burial grounds, which is why the protest began in the first place.

Woodley has been very vocal about her support of the Standing Rock Sioux land not being destroyed, on all forms of social media. Her current Twitter banner reads, “Stop The Dakota Access Pipeline.” She has also posted two photos on Instagram about the land dispute and the Dakota Access Pipeline problem.

"grieving to forgive. forgiving to make space. making space to love wider. loving wider to .... heal.🌾#love #healyourwounds #healourearth #healourancestries #heartforward #alwaysinallways #uptous #NoDAPL," she captioned one photo on Sunday.

"yo, #standingrock. we on our way. #protectcleanwater #NoDAPL #uptous," Woodley wrote alongside another rock photo an hour later.

The California native was arrested while she was live streaming the protest and according to her Facebook video, she was the only one arrested. The video shows Woodley being told she’s being arrested for trespassing, as she asks why she’s the only one being arrested.

"I'm being arrested. I was down there with everybody else. It's because I'm well known. It's because I have 40,000 people watching," Woodley says in the video.

"So everybody knows, we were going to our vehicle, which they had surrounded and waiting for me with giant guns in the giant truck behind them just so they could arrest me," she adds before being taken away by the police.
